Iron Behaving Badly with Chris KresserWe’ve known for almost a hundred years that aggressive iron storage disorders like hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Yet recent research suggests that even mild iron accumulation (at ferritin levels still well within the laboratory reference range) can cause significant metabolic problems, including insulin deficiency, insulin resistance and hepatic dysfunction. In this presentation, I’ll review the evidence connecting iron overload with chronic disease, and present a clinical framework for diagnosing and treating it.
