Cannabinoids and Ocular Health- Jeffrey Anshel OD, FAAO

Many states have authorized the use of cannabis for recreational use and many more for medical use. Medical cannabis has been used since the late 1990's and it continues to be researched for health benefits. Since it is of "plant" origin, it just makes sense that it may have some healing and nutritional benefits. Hemp, one variety of the cannabis sativa plant, has a long history of usefulness in industry and healthcare. The role of cannabis in eye health is still being uncovered, but the earliest uses are often described as a treatment for the eye disease of glaucoma. This presentation will review the "highs and lows" of cannabis use and how it is being used to heal the body.

Learning Objectives:

  1. The attendee will learn about the function and physiology of the eyes and visual system.
  2. The attendee will learn about the Endocannabinoid System in our body and how it is affected by the cannabis plant.
  3. The attendee will learn about the role of hemp in human nutrition.
